153. Sao Tome and Principe

The Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe is an easy paced island nation in the Gulf of Guinea.. Averaging about twenty tourists a week it is the perfect place to get away from anybody and everybody you know.  A popular saying among the locals of these islands is “leve-leve” meaning “it’s all good, take it easy”.. Can you think of a better place to chill out?  These islands were discovered by Portuguese explorers around 1470, and were used originally for sugar production.  Around the 19th century the main crops switched to cocoa and coffee and these are the main exports of the country today.  If I ever go to Sao Tome and Principe I would like to explore the jungles that have remained unchanged for centuries and search for the old plantations that have been abandoned and swallowed up by nature.  Another site I’d like to visit is the Pico Cao Grande in Obo National Park on Sao Tome.  This needle shaped peak towers above the surrounding landscape.. I wonder if I could find a way to the top?
